From 30 April 2011, the European Directive on Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products (THMPD) will ban the import of all unlicensed herbal medicine into the EU.
This outrageous law actively discriminates against medicine from cultures outside of Europe, such as the great traditions of Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, which have been in existence for over 4000 years. In effect, the directive will take away consumers' rights to choose herbal medicinal products. Sufferers of a range of illnesses, ranging from asthma to life-threatening cancer, will be forced to buy man-made, pharmaceutical products, the long term side-effects of which are largely unknown.
Furthermore, the THMPD will destroy the livelihood of hundreds of thousands of doctors, herbalists, accupuncturists and practitioners across Europe, as well as wholesalers and importers, by effectively destroying the sector.
Together with your help, we are hoping to take action against this law, which will force society to take a step back in time. By signing the online petition below, you will be helping us raise awareness of the importance of herbal medicine in the UK and Europe. If we obtain 500 signatures, we will submit a case to No.10 Downing Street and are guaranteed a response.
With the law set to be implemented in April 2011, time is running out for Chinese medicine. Even if you do not take any herbal remedies, you can still help out by signing this petition.
